The Hounskull

The Hounskull helmet, also called the "Houndskull," was worn by knights in the 14th century. It got its name because the pointy faceplate looked like a dog’s snout—or a hound’s skull!

This helmet was a type of bascinet and was made of steel. It covered the whole head and had a long, pointed visor to help deflect sword strikes and arrows in battle.

Knights could lift the visor to see and breathe better when they weren’t fighting. It also made them look super cool and a bit scary on the battlefield!

The Hounskull was popular in Europe for many years and is often seen in medieval art and armor displays. It was a mix of strong protection and clever design.
